Through a young lady in our Creative Non-Fiction workshop, I was invited to my second National Civil Rights Conference this week. Now please understand that this writer is a Sephardic Jew and a Republican. We tend to assume that all rights are civil after WWII and the 1960’s in the States. Once again, my eyes have been wide shut. Because I truly had no idea that what our community members are going through. Sherry Wolf, author of “Sexuality and Socialism: History, Politics, and Theory of LGBT Liberation.” Ms. Wolf was flown in by the English Department. A very interesting producer for a wholly Political theory and philosophy event.
The bottom line is that the current LGBT Agenda is fully bathed in the Civil Rights Movement lead by Martin Luther King in the 1960’s, nationally. Women seem to be the most vocal, the most active, and the most unstoppable force in their demand for nothing more than the opportunity to live their private lives in a loving and supportive manner, with dignity and respect.
The movement is based and supported by the same socialist blueprint that fostered and supported Martin Luther King’s Civil rights Progression in the 1960’s. GLBT Rights have come a hell of a long way since the 1960’s, and the Stonewall Riots. There have been few notable events since the original MLK Civil Rights Marches, which included a dramatic number of GLBT Activists.
The most interesting discovery for me as a more Conservative Hebrew, Latino, Darker Pigmented, British-West Indian; is that I can’t disagree with an Agenda that includes Civil Liberty, Housing Equality, Health Care, and Estate Rights in Probate, and Marital Unions, although they are self-described socialists, they clearly mirror ‘Family Values Campaigns’ waged by Reaganites in the 1980’s.
Sherry Wolf makes entirely too much sense. “It’s nobody’s business what I do in my bedroom.” Sex is not the issue. Nobody knows what anyone else does is the Heterosexual Bedrooms.’ She shan’t get any argument from me on this point either. Treat them like we treat any other constituency? Skip the deviant rhetoric and allow Americans to be moral, upstanding, and productive citizens? Support them with the same support given participants in our Capital Marketplace.
Allow them to live, work, die, and pay taxes like all the other couples. Allow them to adopt hold property their property jointly, live in a secure, nurturing, loving environment. Budiling a life together for a future of stability, growth, peace, love, happiness, and fidelity. Sounds like the Republican National Convention Platform of the middle 1980’s. ‘Return to our Core Family Values.”
As an avid student and active participant of political science, I am astounded at how little attention we pay to the LGBT population, which is a huge percentage of American business, American families, American Military, and American Dollars. I wrongly assumed that they were happy with their progress over the last 40 years. Their standing in the community, and their support by the State. Clearly the self avowed GLBT participant is not yet supported in the manner in which they need to be, or why would they speak up ?? It is clearly not an easy thing to do, nor would it see to benefit the individuals that are coming out to support their community’s Agenda.\
Thank God for the Ohio State University. Twice in one week, I have been directly exposed to stellar technology and research topics, supported in fact by the scholars and activists that I been reading about and validating data with Research tools, ie WIKI, Google Chrome, OCLC Database, PDFs, and confirming the references directly. I have received these experiences on Civil Rights at a time when I thought , “Everyone is covered there’s a Black Dude on Pennsylvania Avenue.”
